Freddie Mac CFO Found Dead In Apparent Suicide

MSNBC is reporting that the acting head of Freddie Mac has been found dead in his home from an apparent suicide.

WASHINGTON - David Kellermann, the acting chief financial officer of Freddie Mac, was found dead at his home Wednesday morning in what broadcast reports said was an apparent suicide.

WUSA-TV and WTOP Radio reported that David Kellermann was found dead in his Northern Virginia home. The 41-year-old Kellermann has been Freddie Mac’s chief financial officer since September.

Kellermann was named acting chief financial officer in September 2008, after the resignation of Anthony "Buddy" Piszel, who stepped down after the September 2008 government takeover. The chief financial officer is responsible for the company’s financial controls, financial reporting and oversight of the company’s budget and financial planning.

David Kellermann was named acting chief financial officer in September 2008. Kellermann is a member of the company's leadership team and reports directly to CEO David M. Moffett. ... Kellermann has been with Freddie Mac for more than 16 years. He began as a financial analyst/auditor in 1992, worked for several years in the company's securities sales and trading unit, and has served in a variety of positions in the company's capital markets division, most recently serving as vice president strategy execution and integration and the Investments and Capital Markets division controller.

Update [2009-4-22 8:56:26 by Glic]:WUSA reports that police responded to the home a little after 5am after Mr Kellermann's wife reported the suicide.

Update [2009-4-22 9:3:34 by Glic]: Police call it an "unattended death" in the finished basement area of the home, say there are no signs of foul play. As per standard procedures, homicide detectives and criminal investigators are investigating. The body has been removed from the home.
